چکیده

Results. In general, CNP and SNP exerted differential inhibitoiy effects on muscarinic-receptorinduced responses in CM and Sph isolated from the various species. Thus in bovine CM, SNP stimulated cGMP formation in a timeand concenu^ation-dependent manner and dose dependently inhibited CCh-induced IP3 production and contraction. These effects were inhibited by LY 83583, a soluble guanylyl cyclase inhibitor, and mimicked by 8-Br-cGMP, a cell-membrane permeable analogue of cGMP. The inhibitoiy effects of the soluble cGMP analogue are tissue and species specific. Sodium nitroprusside had no effect on the muscarinic responses in bovine Sph, but it attenuated CCh-induced contractions in Sph isolated from cats, dogs, and rabbits. In bovine Sph, CNP increased cGMP accumulation in a timeand dose-dependent manner and dose dependently inhibited CCh-induced IP3 production and contraction. LY 83583 had no effect on the muscarinic responses. Gtype natriuretic peptide attenuated CCh-induced contraction in CM isolated from monkey and human, but it had no influence on this response in CM isolated from cows, cats, and dogs.

The relaxant effect of Nigella sativa on smooth muscles, its possible mechanisms and clinical applications

Nigella sativa (N. sativa) is a spice plant which has been traditionally used for culinary and medicinal purposes. Different therapeutic properties including the beneficial effects on asthma and dyspnea, digestive and gynecology disorders have been described for the seeds of N. sativa. There is evidence of the relaxant effects of this plant and some of its constituents on different types of smo...

Smooth muscle relaxant activity of Crocus sativus (saffron) and its constituents: possible mechanisms

Saffron, Crocus sativus L. (C. sativus) is rich in carotenoids and used in traditional medicine for treatment of various conditions such as coughs, stomach disorders, amenorrhea, asthma and cardiovascular disorders. These therapeutic effects of the plant are suggested to be due to its relaxant effect on smooth muscles. The effect of C. sativus and its constituents on different smooth muscles an...

Calcium Antagonistic Activity of Biophytum Petersianum on Vascular Smooth Muscles of Wistar Rat

The whole plant of Biophytum petersianum was extracted with a mixture of water – alcohol (1:1) to evaluate its relaxant effect on aorta rings. In isolated Wistar rat tissue, the hydro-ethanolic extract (0.1; 0.25 and 0.5 mg/ml) non-competitively antagonized calcium chloride and high-K + - induced aorta contractions in a concentration-dependent manner. Moreover, the inhibition of noradr...

Relaxant effect of pioglitazone on the guinea-pig isolated trachea through the modulation of endogenous prostaglandins

Thiazolidinediones are commonly used anti-diabetic drugs. Owing to the anti-inflammatory action of TZDs as a result of there action on the PPAR gamma receptor and a proposed action on the prostaglandins, these drugs can be tried in the acute exacerbations of COPD that are also commonly found among diabetic patients. An experimental study of one week was carried out at animal house of Army Medic...

An invertebrate smooth muscle with striated muscle myosin filaments.

Muscle tissues are classically divided into two major types, depending on the presence or absence of striations. In striated muscles, the actin filaments are anchored at Z-lines and the myosin and actin filaments are in register, whereas in smooth muscles, the actin filaments are attached to dense bodies and the myosin and actin filaments are out of register. The structure of the filaments in s...

PNAS Plus Significance Statements An invertebrate smooth muscle with striated muscle myosin filaments

All animals have the ability to move. In most animals, striated muscles move the body and smooth muscles the internal organs. In both muscles, contraction results from interaction between myosin and actin filaments. Based on vertebrate studies, smooth and striated muscles are thought to have different protein components and filament structures. We have studied muscle ultrastructure in the paras...
